Mommy, how was I made???

So tonight we were hanging out and out of the blue Carter says, Mommy hows was I made? I was like wow! How old are you? Yeah so he's almost five but I honestly did not think I'd be having this talk yet! So I called Bryan upstairs to explain it all and really I wanted to see what he'd say. I'm the kinda of person who just might have given to much information or made him even more confused. Bryan decided to take the easy way out, however after his talk I was kinda confused myself! Bryan talked about Heavenly Father and how he created all of us and how we have a spirit until we come to earth and get our body. It was cute listening to him talk to Carter. Part of me wanted to just lay it all out! Not in details or anything but really get to the point in a way. I mean Carter knows that babies grow in the moms belly and are cut out when it's time for the baby to be born. Boy am I glad I have c-sections and won't have to explain how it's really supposed to happen. It's so hard to answer all of Carter's questions. He is a very smart kid! He has so many questions about his body and how it works. He wants to know everything from how his blood works and the veins and his brain and everything. I'm serious! He has asked some really good questions. I'm so glad I have a super smart husband! One time Carter was asking about what his body is made of. So Bryan explained that it's made of lots of little building blocks. Some of them are from Mommy and some are from Daddy. Even to this day he talks about his building blocks. I'm not creative enough to come up with cute ways to explain things. I'm a more straight to the point kinda gal. I'm sure my style will come in handy when he gets older! So for you moms of older kids out there, how have you explained these things to your kids when they ask? I really need to study up! I've got one smart cookie on my hands and two more to follow in his footsteps!

I am SO lucky we have not had to visit that dark place yet! Luckily, both of my boys aren't that inquisitive (not to be confused with smart, cause they are that). They just haven't asked THE question yet. I thought maybe tonight we might have to. We were talking about why we look like our parents etc. etc. Luckily, the conversation stayed pretty low key. But, I'll have to give Brian a call when we do get to these issues. We have NO clue what we'll say either!

I love this story! I've been asked that question so many times now that Scottie actually answers it for the little kids! I would say that I'm more "to the point" than creative about it- but I'm pretty generic! You just wait... the questions have only begun! :)

I just always tell my kids "go ask your dad" and then he gives them this big scientific schpill with big words and they just usually look at him like he's crazy and say "whatever dad" and so far that is the end of it but I know that very soon I will have to have "the" talk. Good Luck!

Err no advice. I have the same problem with Ky but with church stuff, like, "Why did Christ drink wine with the sacrament but the WE"RE not supposed to drink wine." I was on the "go ask your dad" boat too.

Ok, so this is really funny because Brayden just asked me yesterday "How do babies get in mommy's tummy?" I told him Heavenly Father puts them there and he asked "How?" I kind of used Bryan's analogy...so thanks Bryan...good timing! I didn't want to explain all the details to a 4 year old, so luckily he was satisfied with the answer! But if you go to www.valuesparenting.com, they have a section on how to talk to your kids about that. I'm going to read up on it so I can be prepared when it's really time to share the details, but I'm not looking forward to it! Hope that helps!:)

Yikes! 5?! I am not ready for that yet. I am like you though, pretty straight forward. I figure if I don't tell them someone else will.
