So I made Carter pose for this picture but it doesn't take much convincing. Carter has been testing me so much lately! I'm not sure why! You might be thinking it's because of the new baby in our home and that he's lacking attention. That would be a big nope! Seth sleeps so much that sometimes I forget I have a baby! I am still giving both my older boys lots of love and attention. So why in the world does it seem like Carter can't hear me? Why??? I try to talk in a nice calm voice and nothing happens until I'm yelling at him! I think he doesn't think I"m serious until he hears the yell! I hate to yell! I hate it! I want to know if any of you have any ideas of how I can make my home a no yelling zone. Help!!!!

We joke that there is a special button that makes kids listen.... it's located on their butt, and it gets pushed with a FOOT! :) HA! I don't know what to tell you... we have listening problems at our house too, and it's not just the little kids either.
Oh I've tried to locate that button and the one on Carter's butt must be broken!!!
I just read the greatest book that deals with this exact topic. It is called "The Soft Spoken Parent." You could probably order it on Amazon, I got mine at a Seagull Book store. It was extremely helpful, full of actual IDEAS not just preaching. You'll love it! Good luck:) We've all been there.
This is what I do with Avery, I do not yell (well sometimes but thats out of pure frustration) I talk with him loud enough where I know he can hear, then if he still chooses to ignore me he goes in time out/gets something taken away from him, he quickly realized he does NOT like time out! or toys taken away!
All I can say is good luck in your quest and if you find out some goo tips let me know! :-}
I read somewhere instead of yelling to whisper to them. That way they stop what they are doing and want to hear what you said. It's worked on Coey before although I always forget and go straight for the yelling.
About the skateboard incident.... I am sorry they were being loud. But I am glad Bailey was good about it. He is a good kid. Thanks for the comment!
Whispering USUALLY helps my boys. My problem is that my fuse is getting shorter and I forget to try this before I go into crazy mom mode... my boys don't listen to her either, but for some reason I keep trying.
